Let me be the one to tell you today that you are not alone. I have felt every one of these emotions above, on more than one occasion and I still feel them now. Being mindful or being a positive Polly like me, isn’t about never feeling unhappy/lonely/ stressed etc… Being mindful is feeling those feelings as a functioning human being, but knowing how to move away from those feelings once you’ve felt them. Feel like sometimes you can’t be helped? Or you don’t want help? Gotten used to carrying the weights on your back? But deep down, do you want to let go?
Let me be the one to give you permission to be selfish, and put yourself first. Put your oxygen mask on first.
I met with a lovely lady today who is hearing impaired, she will be one of my newest members in my “Stress Less, Relax to the Max” Ladies only class.
Sam said to me she had made a decision, “I don’t want just negativity anymore, it changes from now on”… In that moment of her deciding that, she told me her son won my 6 week package for my classes that I had donated at a Christmas school raffle… You can imagine I had tears in my eyes..
‘Decide’- the latin meaning “to cut off”..
When you decide you do not want to,
you cut off the negative Nora being in control, because at the end of the day, did you know you have control over how you feel?
So how we work on this in class, is by writing down what we ‘don’t want’ because it’s important to decide. It’s like the sat nav story, if you want to drive from England to Scotland, you’ll get there for sure, I have no doubt, but putting a post code in the sat nav, will get you there a whole lot quicker. Time is the only thing we can never get back, so why not save time?
Once we’re clear what we don’t want, we can focus on what we want…

It’s not the only answer; exercise, eating chillis & chocolate all contribute too..
Meditation doesn’t have to be wearing ‘shit catchers’ as my Nan used to call them, sitting outside bare foot. Meditation can be done on a train, on a bench, at your work desk and so on. All you have to do, is close your eyes, breathe and think, “what would I like to feel”?

I met Sam today because she wants me to work with her 2 children to help them relax, 1 of which is currently having counselling. I told her I had counselling when I was in college. Sam asked me if I think counselling works, and I told her, it didn’t help me in the slightest, everyone works differently, I then went on to tell her the story which my coach told me..
Counselling (can be) and was for me, like seeing the shit on the floor, poking in a stick and stirring it. Sam agreed, “how do you move forward as opposed to keep taking about your problems?” she asked… Meditation is medication, but it’s not as known as counselling is, and if people only know of counselling and it doesn’t help them, it doesn’t surprise me that only 3 in 10 people feel happy in life. They feel like they can’t be helped..
Like I say everyone works differently, some people improve with counselling, some with exercise, some with meditation, and so on.. Some people like to work with a female counsellor some may prefer to listen to male guided mediations. Each to their own, there is no right or wrong answer, just to listen to what you enjoy and what works for you, that is the only important part in this, because only you know whats best for you.
